Our Little Lane

I really love this kid! He is such a great presence to have in our house. He is almost 4 months old and getting more mature by the day. He can roll over both ways now so my days of having a mostly stationary baby are coming to an end. Although once he figured out how to roll back to tummy he has not done so much of the tummy to back.

Just wait though pretty soon he will figure out that he can get places doing the rolling thing. Im sure crawling wont be too far behind either.

Another thing about this baby is that he seems to be in competition with Breanna for epic puker of the century. We have to wash a lot of baby blankets here. Oh well its all part of the Joy of having a baby in the house which I Love!

Languange Lesson

I have a prize for anyone who can guess what this means. Skyler came up to me today and said: "my feets green" anyone? anyone?

Ok I will tell you. What he really means is that he was climbing on the dryer when he was not supposed to and knocked the laundry detergent off causing it to spill onto a pile of clean laundry and it got on his foot.

I might have another prize for any one who might be able to tell me how many cycles of the washer it will take to rinse all the laundry!

(ok I know if I actually had the laundry folded and put away instead of a pile in front of the dryer this would be a much easier clean up.)

February

It is February first already! I read a blog this morning with a back yard picture and it inspired me to post a picture of my back yard in all its winter glory. For such a teeny tiny yard it is sure holding a lot of snow right now. I like to think that Febuary is the beginging of the downward slope of winter. Things will start warming up in march right? Please?

Breathing

Back in november I quit my managing job, they have finaly found a replacement and I am finished as of this week.

I couldnt handle it, I think at another time in my life and with the proper medication, (just kidding, except not really) I could have done it but right now I just cant.

So right now I am feeling anxious and a little (or a lot) stressed out trying to finish everything that I should have had done a long time ago before I pass everything on to the new girl. She seems good and competent and I think that she will be able to do better then I did.

I have quite the range of mixed emotions over this. I feel bad for quitting, I wish I could have handled it better, if the year had gone differently for me I would not be where I am now. I wish I could have sucked it up and kept going and I could feel like I overcame something rather then giving up. I feel like I let people down. The money was good and it could have helped us get into a house a lot sooner.

On the other hand I am looking forward to not having the stress of a job that I cant leave at work, one that comes home with me every day because that is where it is. Im looking forward on concentrating on my own family and life and being able to get that where I want to be. I am happy that I will have less phone messages to check YAY, Im tired of phones and messages.

So here is to a new year with some unexpected changes, perhaps some different employment for me (give me a few months to decide on that one though) and some time spent with my family.

For now though I will just concentrate on breathing and putting one foot in front of another.

Today my daughter wished out loud she had a roll of duct tape. Why would a 7 year old need duct tape you might ask? Well I wanted to know too, so I asked her.

So she could tape her brothers mouth shut.

I didnt know wether to laugh or ground her for life. And to think, one day she will be a teenager.

Im in so much trouble.

A case of the Yahyahs

Skyler has an interesting speach impediment. I call it the Yahyahs. Well I dont know if it really qualifies as an impediment as much as an amusing quirk. When he uses certian vowel sounds he likes to elongate the sound and add a yah sound.

The kids like to be sung to every night. Ryan always picks "Tell me the stories of Jesus" so after I sing to Ryan Skyler likes me to sing "Jesus" to him too. Skyler has started to sing along with me when I do this. So it goes.

"Tell me the stories of Jesus, I long to heyahyahyear..."

or when he feels wronged he will exclaim:

"No Fayahyahyair!"

Added to the fact he also has the cutest gruff quality to his voice it is really cute.

'

Brotherly love.

Ryan can be quite protective of his little brother. One sunday we were trying to get out of the crowded halls at church. I had Lane in his carseat by the wall, beside him were a couple kids who were bumping into each other. Ryan was hovering over Lane when he saw them bump into the car seat.

"There's a real baby in here and you bumped him!"

He was so concerned. Of all the kids Ryan is the most taken with him. He is always hugging, kissing, touching loving. For the most part it is endearing but sometimes I just wish he didnt have to touch him to love him.

So if you see us out with the car seat somewhere, just remember there is a real baby in there!

Tid bits of the last 2 months.

  • Ryan is in Kindergarten and Breanna is in grade 1. The are both loving it. I hope they like school this much forever.
  • Jon finished Dragon Boating for the year at the end of september. His last festival was in Sanfrancisco. He finished the weekend off by falling off a curb and breaking his wrist really well. The got the wrist set enought to send him home where he had surgery and now has 3 pins and 4 screws and 2 bars coming out of his arm. It has made life interesting and we are managing.
  • My Grandpa Hinman passed away just over a week ago. He was 92, It was not a suprise and he was ready to go but I will still miss him. I will miss the sound of his voice. Everytime I heard it I felt like I was a child again. The hardest part was not being able to go to the funeral. Which brings me to my next point.
  • I should be having a baby any day now. I am offically 1 day past my due date so this baby could come anytime. We know it is a boy. I had told myself I was not going to get sick of being pregnant and spend my time wishing for this baby to just come already. You know though what they say about good intentions lol. It has been a bit stressful this month and with Jon without the mobility he normaly has I just need to be able to move again. I am also battling a rotten cold/flu and being big, pregnant and sick really sucks. I want to get better and have a baby already! Hopefully I can be posting pics of a beautiful baby boy soon!

TIME OUT!

Skyler did something he shouldnt, we sent him to time out.

Im not sure if he learned his lesson or not.

What comes next.

I like to think that when we pass on from this life to the next a few things happen. Of course first you want to see your loved ones that have passed on before.

Then you get a question period where you get to ask all those questions that you have wondered about your whole life. Like what would it be like to experience life through the consciousness of a gold fish and do amoebas have feelings, that kind of stuff. Oh and about how we were created and how evidence of evolution really fits in to the plan of things. Hey with my new unlimited scientific knowledge maybe I can make that light speed travel device work that I planned when I was delivering flyers as a kid. *

Then I like to think that perhaps there is some kind of heavenly home theater where you sit in front of a big screen TV. (or maybe they have some sort of virtual interactive sort of thing. This is heaven, they have the best technology I am sure.) Then they hand you the remote and you get to watch any part of your life you want. (the fast forward button would be really handy for those dentist visits).

At this point you get to watch all the good stuff you want. See yourself as a 5 year old again. Relive all the fun times. Realize that when that lady in the SUV honked her horn it really was ME being the Jerk. ( you get the occasional surprise of course).

Most importantly I would like to see where all the places are that I lost my keys, or my bank cards are or what on earth happened to that second can of orange juice that I bought two weeks ago? How on earth did I lose those glasses? What did I do with the scriptures in that flowery red scripture case that dad gave me from salt lake city?

Gremlins people I think I would finally get to see the gremlins that did it all.

* I imagine that much to my dissappointment I would find out that this proccess would still take some time. I imagine God would still expect us to learn it ourselfes. Im sure he has some fantastic reference material though.

What will they think of next.

Yesterday Ryan was sad because one of his "light bulb cymbals" broke.

Yes you read that right. Light bulb cymbals. Unfortunately as far as being a percussion instrument they kind of lack the necessary structural integrity.

I swear they get these ideas all by themselves.

****Clarification*****

Lightbulb cymbals are like these, the ones with the handles that you bang together. Except instead it is two lightbulbs you bang together....

Odds and ends from the Hill household.

Well I have not tried to boil eggs again yet but:

It is breakfast time and I am making Orange Julius after taking the blender out of the cubboard and taking it apart and washing it out. (Jon is making eggs benedict mmmmm).

Anyway I get the frozen OJ in the blender and pour the milk and water in. While I get the ice I look over and notice the liquid flowing steadily out the bottom of the blender. Jon is standing beside me and kindly says.

I think you forgot this:

yeah you know the part in the bottom that does the mixing and the holding in of ingredients.

*****

phone rings

Me: Hello?

Jon: I am on my way home could you put some toast in the toaster and grab my ID tags for me I forgot them.

Me: I could come bring them to you?

Jon: You wouldnt have time I have to teach in an hour.

Me: Oh you cant have a twit tag when you are teaching?

(twit tag is a temporary tag with a big T that you get to wear when you dont have your ID)

Jon: Not when I gave a big speach in class yesterday about always having your ID on you.

I think he should have left it so he could be the demo of what NOT to do lol.

*******

Ryan and Skyler are running circles around thehouse

Ryan: AAAAAHHH AAAAAHHHHH AAAAHHHH!!!

Mom: Ryan stop running and screaming!

Ryan: Skyler is chasing me with the air pump so he can hit me! AAAAAAHHHHHH

Mom: He is not going to hit you he is just chasing you to get a reaction.

Skyler is still chasing while weilding the pump, I grab Ryan while he passes by. Skyler stands there and just looks at him.

Mom: See Ryan I told you he wasnt going to hit you.

WHACK!!!!

oops

*********

Ryan has the floor puzzle out and has lost interest. Skyler is now playing in the pieces.

Mom: Breanna could you help Ryan clean up the puzzle?

Breanna: Mom at school Mrs F says that the person who made the mess cleans it up.

Mom: Well Mrs F makes the rules at school and I make the rules at home.

Breanna: Who makes the mess is who cleans it up EVERYWHERE.

Mom: Breanna help Ryan clean it up now

Breanna: She says that if you didnt make the mess you only have to help if your mom forces you so you are going to have to FORCE me.

She is not even 7 yet how is it that I feel like I already have a teenager? She didnt end up helping clean up. She went straight to her room. And went to bed nice and early. Im still the mom here.

******

Skyler has something against glasses. When he is around they break. Yesterday we lost 3.

One he dropped on the stairs

second one he left on the floor and it shatterd when breanna bumped it

Third one same as the last on but My sister was the one who accidentaly kicked it over.

Anyone sell indestructible glasses?

Egg Salad and the bun in the oven.

I have boiled eggs for egg salad twice this week. Both times I have had to throw a pot of boiling water down the sink because I forgot to put the eggs in when it was cold. Should I go for number 3 tomorrow?

On another note I am due to have a baby in 6 weeks plus 1 day. I had thought it would be really convenient to have the baby on thanksgiving weekend. That way Jon's sisters would be in town to see new baby and then with the holiday and weekends on either side Jon would only have to take 4 days off work to get 10 days off straight. That would be 4 weeks away. (Skyler was 1 week early so this one could be 2 right? lol)

It turns out thought due to a cosmic mix up (yes I will blame it on the stars) Jon has to go out of town the week before that and I am not sure I want to have a baby the day after he gets home when I am in that my husband has been out of town for 5 days and I am a basket case mode. Ugh so much for my careful planning.

*****DISCLAIMER*****

Yes I do know I have no real control about when this baby is born. A girl can hope though right?

Oh and I had also set a goal this pregnancy to enjoy it and to try not to get to that sick of pregnancy point. Having the baby on thanksgiving was merely a matter of connivance.

*****Post Edit******

That last word was supposed to be convenience but due to a mistake with the spell checker it turned out wrong. But I thought that the end results were rather humorous.

The I wants.

Breanna: I want...(insert item of the moment here)

Dad: Breanna, you want everything.

Breanna: No I dont, Because if I wanted everything I would want a disgusting witch and I dont want a disgusting witch.

Dad: She's got a point there!

Monday, August 10, 2009

It all started as a lesson in science.

First Breanna asked me if we (people) were mammals. She proceeds to do the I told you so thing to Ryan. Then Ryan asked if Hoomans (I love it when he says that) are animals. I told him that yes they are. Then he wanted to know if that meant that Jesus was an animal.

I cant wait till I hear that he brought that one up in primary. Guess what my mommy told me!

She gets it from her Aunt

Breanna wanted to wear her "high heels" today. They are a pair of black dress shoes with a bit of a heel we found them at a second hand store and they dont quite fit yet. She has not worn them really because they are not comfortable for her because they are still a little too large. Anyhow she put them on today and proudly exclaimed:

"mom! they dont hurt when I wear them anymore!"

I thought for a moment of the sacrifices of comfort girls will make for the sake of fashion. Me: I am kind of fashion negligent, I would make a great candidate for the show "What not to wear". As far as shoes go I appreciate them for their funcionality and while I can apprecieate a cute pair of shoes I dont really go all out for them. Which is why it came as a complete suprise to me when Breanna said to me next:

"Mom, dont you think the shoes really complete the dress?"

My tom-boy girl seems to have a bit of girly girl in after all. she dosent get it from me, but maybe I can learn from her one day?

Face Paint?

Today I was about to blog again (I know two days in a row its a miracle!). That is when I realized that Skyler was still in the kitchen and there was un attended cherries in the kitchen. Needless to say i found a cherry faced little boy. I was just setting up to take a picture of my cherry faced cherub when Ryan bounded down the stairs and announced: "I painted my face!"

and with no further ado here they are:

My cherry boys!
