Breanna wanted to wear her "high heels" today. They are a pair of black dress shoes with a bit of a heel we found them at a second hand store and they dont quite fit yet. She has not worn them really because they are not comfortable for her because they are still a little too large. Anyhow she put them on today and proudly exclaimed:
"mom! they dont hurt when I wear them anymore!"
I thought for a moment of the sacrifices of comfort girls will make for the sake of fashion. Me: I am kind of fashion negligent, I would make a great candidate for the show "What not to wear". As far as shoes go I appreciate them for their funcionality and while I can apprecieate a cute pair of shoes I dont really go all out for them. Which is why it came as a complete suprise to me when Breanna said to me next:
"Mom, dont you think the shoes really complete the dress?"
My tom-boy girl seems to have a bit of girly girl in after all. she dosent get it from me, but maybe I can learn from her one day?

Hill House Happenings
- Today is the second last day of school for the year witch I'm not sure if that will make my life easier because we can say good bye to some of the routine or harder because the kids are around all the time and they have no routine. We will be spending much time running out energy at the park this year.
- Today is also the second last day of Jon being gone for his one long work trip of the year. Which means day 11 of 12 days with out dad. The boys are OFF THE WALL. Which I think is a combination of a few things: they miss their dad, Ryan has not had preschool for pretty much the whole two weeks Jon has been gone and that is a change in routine for him and one last factor which brings me to my next point.
- THIS HAS BEEN THE 11 LONGEST DAYS OF THE YEAR!!!!! Literally on June 21 the sun rose at 5:04 am and set at 10:07 pm giving use 17 hours 3 minutes and 8 seconds of daytime. this does interesting things to young children's sleep patterns. We all know what happens to children with weird sleep patterns.
- I have a pile of dirt sitting in the middle of the living room, it is staring at me, I swear I can hear it say "sweep me up heather sweep me up" I am ignoring it while I blog.
- I will be adding the townhouse complex that I live in to my work load. It will be in addition to the fifteen apartment units I already take care of. While I know I cant do both on my own it is OK. Jon's substitute paper delivering has dwindled to very little recently so we are going to let that go and Jon will be helping me with the work here. I cant wait to train him to fill out the rent records and take over the paperwork for me, YAY. (he is way better at organization then I am anyway)
- I finally bought plants for my front flowerbed last week. I finally planted them today in the hopes that they are not dead and a good watering will resurrect them. Otherwise people are going to wonder why I planted a bunch of dead plants this morning. Why did I even bother?
- I transplanted my chives to make room for the other plants, I may have killed that too, although my tomato plants seem to be doing OK.
- I am 23 weeks pregnant this Saturday with boy number 3, I don't think I have even told my blog that. I think everyone knows now, I hope my blog forgives me for keeping it out of the loop. Breanna (while I know she was hoping for a sister) seems to be dealing well with the fact she will be big sister to 3 younger brothers.
- I think I am going to have lunch now. Well maybe I will sweep up the dirt pile first.

It is all just sauce on the wall
There is a glorious mess in the dining area. spagetti noodles all over the table and benches, a pile of spagetti on the floor nesting in a puddle of milk and splatters of spagetti sauce all over the wall, I have no clean cloths to clean up the mess and it is warm and muggy in my house, do you suppose if I just closed my eyes long enough it will all go away?
p.s. Never leave the children in the dining room on their own to eat spagetti while you veg on the couch. It just isnt worth it.

Mommas loosing her marbles and Skyler is helping.
I have been known to talk in my sleep from time to time. It is usually when I am sleeping lightly enough that I wake myself up when doing it. What I think I have said is rarely what Jon remembers me saying. If I think I have said something semi coherent Jon heard something completely ridiculous.
Jon and I went to bed just after midnight last night (a late night for us) Skyler woke up and was crying so I brought him in with us. I began to fall asleep and have those mind wandering dreams you usually have as you drift off. Well people kept talking to me in my dreams and I kept answering them. Then finally I don't know if it was an awareness that I was talking gibberish or if something funny happened in a dream but I was laughing. Not just a giggle but a full blown my sides hurt and I cant stop laugh. Jon was annoyed because he is trying to sleep I'm trying not to wake Skyler up but seriously I don't know what came over me, I still laugh when I think about it. It took a while for the after giggles to die down.
*********
I came home this morning from dropping Breanna off at school and went up stairs to make a couple phone calls, for a moment I couldn't see or hear Skyler and had this momentary irrational fear that I had left him in the van. Then I heard him in the kitchen. I walked in to find him with both hands wrist deep in the margarine tub.
*********
I walked outside the front door for a second today and closed the front door behind me. When I went to go back in a moment later I found the front door locked. Courtesy of Skyler.
I walked around back and tried to get him to open the back patio door which he has no problems doing when he wants to take a walk in the fresh snow with no diaper or pants on his bottom, like he did this morning. So he makes a half hearted effort to unlock the door and then tries futility to open the door and gives up and goes back to playing with his boat.
I try the front door again. (even though I knew it would not help)
Then I tried the front window which was unlocked. Yeah don't bother trying to climb through a window less then two feet across when you are even a little pregnant. I am sure some of my neighbours had a lovely view of my bottom half hanging out the front of my house.
I went around back and as I was pondering the acrobatics required to get my self through the slightly larger but higher up window in the back I decided to try one last time to get Skyler to let me in.
Turns out the secret is to not try go get him to let you in but to tell him to come out side, suddenly he had so much more motivation.
(did I mention it was wet and snowing outside and I had no jacket?)

An outing to the park or a mothers day sampler.
So Skyler had a cold and while we kept him home to avoid spreading it to the whole nursery we needed to get the kids out so we went on a family walk to the park. (wich we wouldnt normaly do on a sunday but sometimes you just hafta get out of the house!)
I dont know if you have watched the trailer for the new "Night at the museum" movie but this is Ryan's "gong show" "Fire Powa"
Breanna was too scared to do these monkey bars when we were watching because they were "too high" of course when you turn your back what happens?
I have titled this picture "Deceptively Serene" Man I love these kids.

A romantic in the making.
The other night Skyler decided that rather then sleep from his bed time till morning he only needed a nap. I found myself watching the movie "Made of Honor".
I floated in and out of sleep trying to make sure he didnt destroy anything or you know, him self. After a failed attempt at taking him upstairs to bed with me I finished watching the movie. I was reasonably annoyed that it was approaching midnight and I was not in bed.
As the couple finally gets together and gets married The man officiating at the wedding announces: "you may kiss the bride" and you know it finishes with the typical romantic kiss. At this point the little boy whom I love but am not impressed with walks over to me, wraps his arm around my neck and kisses me oh so sweetley. Now how am I supposed to be annoyed with that?
Of course I told Jon later that his son was a little romantic and he promised me he would break him of it before he gets older :(

You do the math.
A month or so ago I went to the doctors office to get a sick note for Jon the cost of the note was 10 dollars plus 50 cents for GST I only had a 10 on me, the receptionist told me not to worry about the 50 cents at the time.
Yesterday we got a bill from the clinic for 50 cents.
How much did they pay to mail it? 54 cents.
Jon says we should mail them a cheque for 50 cents.

Not so omnipotent me
One day I was hanging with the girlfriends and confessed soemthing that I was afraid of happenig but was always afraid to admit lest I cause it to happen. My friend said to me: Heather you dont have that kind of power.
I felt so relieved that admitting my fears would not cause them to happen.
Today was thinking about spring and what I wanted to say on my facebook status. Then I thought, what if I jinx it and we get snowed on again. My friends words came back to me: Heather you dont have that kind of power.
It feels good to be small.

Pulling from the archives.
*I have not blogged in a while so I found this one in the archives that I had not published.
So the other night I found Breanna (when she was supposed to be in bed) lying on the floor by the light of the bathroom, stuffed toy in her arms and book in her hand. The conversation went something like this.
Mom: Breanna go to bed please....
Breanna go to bed now....
Breanna: ....im asleep...
Mom: Breanna you have till the count of five...1...2...3...4...5
(for the record I could toltaly tell that she had been reading her book and was not asleep at all there was no doubt about it.)
So I pick her up and plop her in bed, not roughly but not as gently as I would have if I actually thought she was sleeping.
Breanna: MOM I WAS SLEEPING!!!
Me: Breanna I know you werent sleeping.
Breanna: yes I was..
Me: Then why were you on the floor in the hall.
Breanna: I fell out of bed.
yeah chances are if she fell on the bed she would have woke up crying or at the very least woke up to climb back in bed, not some how land 5 feet away from her bed in the hall in the perfect position to read by the light of the bathroom.
So she continues to insist that she did indeed fall out of the bed and was indeed telling the truth and gets upset that I do not believe her. As I leave the room she drops this one on me...
"Heavenly Father knows Im telling you the truth"
Seriously how do you respond to that?!?!?!? I just said goodnight and went down stairs.
*Breanna did admit later to her little fib. we talked and it is all good.

I am sure there are other things I could or should be blogging about but since I am sick and miserable I will just say this:
Today I walked around the corner and found my daughter reading a book silently to herself and I cant get over how supremley cool that is. My kid can read. Literacy is a wonderful thing.

A smattering of Photographs
Skyler is my little mischeif maker he is always getting into something or other.
Ryan does not believe in making regular smiling faces for a picture. ( his lens fell out of his glasses due to a lost screw. thus the lack of glasses and the cross eyed look)
I cant get over how grown up this kid is getting, she will be 7 this september at that blows me away.
The kids favourite place to sit and watch a movie.
Space boy Ryan at the Telus world of Science

The lego sculptures are super cool, the picture does not do this one justice. It was 3 dimensional, lit from the inside and really looked like a lego man escaping from the lego box.

Ryan: ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Breanna: no no no no no no no no no no.....
Breanna: It wont make you look fat unless your fat before you put it on!
End of conversation.

Count Down continued.
7 days till Christmas 3 presents obtained.
So I was thinking the other day of the Christmas present I bought my sister the year Jon and i got engaged. I gave it to her early because I was going to spend Christmas with Jon and his family. It was a hamster and it died on Christmas day. We thought of renaming it posthumously to Scrooge.

Dont Judge me it is one of those days
Breanna: So Ryan do you want to come upstairs with me?
Ryan: Uhh nope.
Breanna: Come on Ryan we need to go where mom cant see us.
Mom: Breanna what are you doing, If you dont tell me you are not going upstairs.
Breanna: We are plunging our tummies. (breanna has the sink plunger and she squishes it onto her tummy.) Well mom can we?
Mom: (picking her battles) Whatever Breanna.
Breanna: Ryan! Mom said we can do it, do you want to come!?
Ryan: Nope
Breanna: Well if you change your mind I will be upstairs plunging.
Seriously I cant imagine any serious harm coming from it. The worst I can see happening is getting a call from the school or something because they want to know where my kid got the large hickies on her stomach. Oh and it is a sink plunger, totaly cleaned and NEVER used on a toilet, just in case you were worried.
